Subject: required number of subject headings

Hello Map Catalogers,

I'm new to map cataloging and have been reading the wonderful map
cataloging manuals and books, but I still have a rather basic question
about the number of subject headings. Chapter 4 of LC's Map cataloging
manual says: "Every map of an identifiable place must have a subject
heading for the area." If you have a subject heading that is subdivided
geographically, such as Geology--[Place]--Maps does that count as the
subject heading for the area, or, to fulfill the requirement quoted above,
do you need an additional 651 heading that begins with the place name?

Thanks in advance,
