*IFLA 2008 - INVITATION*
In August 2008, Québec City will host the 74^th IFLA Conference, the
World Library and Information Congress. On behalf of the National
Committee, we are happy to welcome you. “/Libraries without borders:
Navigating towards global understanding/” is the theme of this
Conference where delegates will be invited to reflect on the fundamental
values that diversity, complementarity, comprehension, cooperation and
solidarity represent in the context of globalisation. Ffor a full view
of the conference, please go to http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla74/index.htm.

This Conference is indeed a major event. We will welcome between 4 and 5
thousands delegates from over 150 countries. There will be an
opportunity to choose from among several hundred lectures and
communications on every possible topic related to the issues involving
our profession. In addition, over fifteen satellite meetings will take
place in various areas of Canada and the United States before or after
the Conference.

Since its creation, IFLA has held its Conference only twice in Canada:
in 1967, in Toronto, and in 1982, in Montréal. August 2008 is therefore
a rendez-vous that you do not want to miss: a unique opportunity to meet
here the international community and, at the same time, to demonstrate
the vitality and dynamism of our own community.

*BIBLIOMONDIALIS*
The 2008 IFLA Conference is about to reap the rewards of the significant
efforts the Canadian library profession as a whole has made during the
last seven years. We are now in the final planning stage, which is
proceeding full steam since only a few months separate us from the event.

ASTED and CLA have jointly taken action to encourage this objective by
creating a charitable organization named/ //Bibliomondialis: Canadian
Partners for Library Bridge-Building/.

The mission of/ //Bibliomondialis/ is to solicit and manage funds for
supporting the international development of libraries. The goal for 2008
is to set up a scholarship program for helping delegates from developing
countries participate in the Quebec City Conference. After 2008, the
goal will be to encourage Canadian colleagues to take part in
international activities, such as IFLA conferences, but also to support
research, study or development projects that focus on international issues.

To date, ASTED and CLA, as well as the Ontario Library Association,
ABCDEF internationale and Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
have each agreed to make a $5,000 contribution. A major fundraising
campaign is now underway directed at institutions, associations and
individuals. As with all charity organizations, contributions will be
tax deductible. To contribute to/ //Bibliomondialis/, please go to
www.cla.ca <http://www.cla.ca>.
