As a quilter, I like to see quilters getting credit for their hard work,
so I dug up the details on this Minnesota geology quilt. You can find it
them at

http://gsmmn.mngeology.net/sites/default/files/NewLetters/GSMNews_Winter2011.pdf

"Aileen Lively, spouse of MGS staff Rich Lively, has created an
absolutely incredible quilt based on the new 2011
Minnesota bedrock geology map. The quiltis a batik appliqué and
contains over 80 separate colors, all 87 county
outlines, and an inset showing the distribution of Cretaceous rocks.
It was prominently displayed at the GSA
meeting, and you can now see it hanging in the foyer at MGS!"

It's a stunning piece of work, to be sure.

Anyone at the Geological Society of America meeting in Minneapolis a
couple of years ago will surely remember the spectacular (and huge)
geologic map of Minnesota quilt on display. It was truly awesome, by
far the most amazing quilt map I have ever seen. A picture can't do
justice to size (about 10-12' tall as I recall), sumptuous fabrics, and
amount of geologically accurate detail.
