Hello Maps-L,

Can anybody direct me to an index or indexes that show the quad names
for the AMS/DMA 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 sheets in the alphanumeric series
(e.g., V742, etc.)?

Or else, indexes that show the numeric designation for the quads (e.g.,
5456-IV or 5456-IV SE)?

If o.p., can I get copies somehow?

Details:
The only index I have, showing the entire US, is for the 1:50K sheets.
Distributed by USGS since the 1980s. The little squares have nothing in
them at all except colors to indicate availability. You use the lat/long
coordinates that you get over in the margin and look in the key on the
back to determine, from the lat/long, the quad name and the numeric
code. I think that filing them by the quad name or numeric code makes
since, since these are printed on the sheets and these are conventional
ways to file the maps. I was hoping for indexes that do this directly,
because the USGS-distributed index is awkward, even if you annotate the
numeric codes in the margins and file sheets by code (which is what my
plan is if I don't get better indexes).

We have some sheets in these series going back to about 1950 (many of
the 1:25,000 names match USGS 1:24K names), and I can't imagine there
wasn't some sort of index before the 1980's era USGS "index" to the
1:50,000 sheets, which is more of an availability graphic than an index.

Thanks,
        Mark
