You all rock!

Thanks for the many links and leads. The student I'm working with is
very impressed (and grateful). Special mention goes to Tim Ross for the
lead on the Baedeker guidebook. Using Worldcat, I found Hathi Trust has
a free scanned copy of the 1885 edition. Worldcat & Beadeker also led
me to Rice University's TIMEA's, a scanned collection that "contains
over 25,000 pages from travel guidebooks, museum catalogs, travelogues,
and other works documenting travel in the Middle East, particularly
Egypt in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries." It has a fairly
rich map section.

Additional thanks to Michael Fry for tracking down some later editions
of the Baedeker and getting me images of the map.

Once again, I'm impressed by the rich and varied resources my colleagues
are able to locate at the drop of a hat.
