The "Mediterranean grid system" in which "a student" is interested may refer
to that employed for the 'Mediterranean Zone' based upon a Lambert
projection; the 'Mediterranean Zone' covered "Greece, most of Albania, the
extreme south-east of Yugoslavia, Turkey, southern Bulgaria, the Greek
Islands and the Dodecanese". Source: Maps and survey / compiled by
Brigadier A.B. Clough (London: The War Office, 1952). The RGS-IBG Map Room,
as with several other map collections (e.g. Library of Congress Geography
and Map Division), has drawers/rooms full of World War 2 map series
including such zones and grids.

Sincerely
Francis Herbert (Curator of Maps,Royal Geographical Society (with the
Institute of British Geographers))
