Dear All,

We inform your libraries that the new metamorphic map of the
Alps, eds. Frey M. (Switzerland), Desmons J. (France) & Neubauer E.
(Austria) is available. More than 50 geologists from Austria,
France, Italy and Switzerland contributed to this map. The editors are
internationally recognized specialists in metamorphic petrology and
regional geology of the Alps.

The map consists actually of two maps combined on one sheet and presenting
pre-Alpine (1: 1 000 000) and Alpine (1: 500 000) metamorphism.

The first metamorphic map of the Alps was issued in 1973 by Niggli and
Zwart. The metamorphic map of Europe at a scale of 1: 2 500 000 was
published 25 years ago (Zwart, 1973). The present map was initiated in 1983
and it needed almost 17 years to compile the data and design them into two
related maps. As it follows, it will need at least a decade until the next
map can be published increasing the actual value of the promoted
metamorphic map of the Alps (eds. Frey, Desmons & Neubauer).

Metamorphic map of the Alps relies on high-quality topographic and tectonic
maps. Unfolded map consists of two sheets measuring 92 x 103 cm and 95 x
103 cm. It was produced with the modern computer technology and has a
pleasant color selection. This map is a valuable research facility,
educational material, and collector issue.

The map costs SFr. 50.00 (US$35.00) (postage costs are not included).
