Many of these same maps appear in the Annual reports of the Secretary
of the Interior, in both a "Departmental" and
"Congressional" edition. The Departmental editions are in
many depositories. The Congressional editions are included
in the paper originals and microfiche reprint "Serial Set
of Congressional Documents." the 50,000 maps contained in
the Serial Set are covered in Donna Koepp's 3-vol index
being published over the next 3 years. (each of the 3 vols.
is $945/$995, the set is $2,550/$2,685 --first price is for
libraries buying the entire Serial Set Indexes, of which it
is part XIV). For a flyer on "Index and Carto-Bibliography
of Maps, 1789-1969," e-mail CIS ([log in to unmask]). LC

Thank you to all who responded to my query about the maps in Professional Paper
9; I have a California connection (with loose maps) who has offered to provide
them to me for duplication.

I will point out that there are many wonderful forest maps in the early
professional papers which show burnt and old growth timber areas. If you have
frequent requests for this type of historical coverage in California,
Washington, and/or Oregon you might want to check your holdings and consider
either removing them from the volumes or making color copies of them and placing
them in your map collections for added security/accessibility.

My heartfelt thanks again,
  Joanne
