Subject: Decorative Map of West Indies free to good home
Date: Thu, 13 Jan 2005 12:20:56 -0600
From: Robert Karrow <[log in to unmask]>

I've had a call from a woman in Burlington, Iowa who has a map inherited
from her father-in-law, who used to live in Barbadoes. It is a large
decorative map of the West Indies. It appears to be a photographic base
(whether blown up from an old map or all modern art work, I don't know)
which has been completely colored, with pale blue sea, tan land, compass
rose, three sailing ships.. It "used to look splendid above the
fireplace in Barbadoes" but now could use some cleaning and has
developed a few wrinkles on the surface. May have been varnished.
Framed, quite possibly glued to a backing board, although this is not
certain. Estimated by eye to be about 4 x 5 feet. Has a title
cartouche that reads:

"West Indies agreeable to the most approved maps and charts, contrived
for Robert O. Lord of the Queen's Fort in Barbadoes. Walter P. Burn and
Associates, 1939."

Walter P. Burn may have been the Col. Walter P. Burn who designed the
Civil Air Patrol insignia.

Fee to a good home, but will have to pick up in Iowa or pay for wrapping
and shipping. I can put you in touch with the owner. Serious inquiries
only.
