Please note the following position. If interested, kindly get in touch
as soon as possible. Thank you.

Urgent: USGS recruiting paid editorial clerk**
for spring and summer semesters*
The U.S. Geological Survey Publishing Service Center (PSC) has an urgent
opening for an editorial clerk at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood.

The intern would be hired as an editorial clerk at a GS-4 level, which
pays $14.39/hr. The number of hours could range up to 20 hours a week.
(We're flexible on the number of hours, as well as the actual working
schedule, so we can accommodate most needs.) Applicants must be
currently enrolled to qualify.

The position involves

· Assisting experienced technical editors with editing USGS publications

· Assisting with the administration and project management of publications

· Hands-on experience in a professional publishing environment

· Learning about the science and work of the USGS

Students enrolled this fall should submit a transcript and resume to Jon
Raese ([log in to unmask]).

This position must be filled immediately (though the start date can be
delayed). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, so *please
submit your information as soon as possible. *

The position could be carried over throughout the academic year. The
editorial clerk position is supported by the Student Temporary
Employment Program (STEP) and the Student Career Employment Program
(SCEP). These authorities allow USGS to hire students for both temporary
work, STEP, and for temporary work with an eye toward long-term
conversion to the permanent work force by using SCEP. These hiring
authorities enable the USGS to encourage students who have a genuine
interest in science as a career, by providing hands-on work experience,
mentoring, and engagement in our workplaces. Regardless of
major,*strength in language and communication skills* is expected, and
an interest in the natural sciences would be helpful. The PSC has
qualified for a $5,000 grant from the FY 2012 Youth Initiative Funding
program.

Thank you.
