Subject: Re: Alabama Governor's First Annual Alabama GIS Symposium

Message cross-posted to MAPS-L apologies in advance.

I would like to know if any Library types will be attending this
symposium. If so, please email me directly at [log in to unmask]
Perhaps we can meet as a special interest group if you think it is
worthwhile.

Description:

The Governor created The Alabama Geographic Information Council (AGIC)
by Executive Order 68 earlier this year. This group has been meeting
monthly since that time to organize the structure of the AGIC. One
important concern is coming up with an accurate mail group of active
GIS
supporters and users in Alabama, so they can participate in the
direction the AGIC should go and also be kept up-to-date on what is
happening. I have attempted to come up with potential users/supporters
on the AU campus. That is why you are receiving this message.

The AGIC and Geological Survey of Alabama are co-sponsoring a
symposium
on the University of Alabama campus in August, 2002 (13-15). Although
details for the symposium are still being worked out, the AGIC thought
it important to give those interested an opportunity to get an
overview
of the establishment of the AGIC and some of the important things
happening in GIS in Alabama, prior to fall university start-up.
Symposiums in future years will give those of you interested a better
opportunity to showcase some of you own GIS work.

Information on registration and agenda for the 2002 AGIC Symposium
titled "Mapping Alabama's Future" may be found at the following web
sites: http://office.swma.com/agic/registration/ or
http://www.sicsconsultants.com/agic/registration.

If you know of others from campus who may be interested in this
symposium, please forward this information on to them.
