Call for essays!

Nanci Miloni Hill and I edit "Perspectives," a feature in each issue of
Public Libraries, the journal of the Public Library Association.
"Reference" is the theme for the January/February issue.

What is your perspective on public library reference service today?
Have you and your colleagues developed an innovative approach to how you
"do" reference? You may have earned your MLS when it took a policy
decision to make a phone call to answer a question -- or your reference
coursework may have relied extensively on Web resources. Formats have
changed, but how has the underlying mission of the reference department
stayed the same?

Whether you are one of a team of reference staff, the department
manager, or the library director: your perspective is welcome!

Essays should be 1000 words, +/-, and deal with public library
situations. You will receive two complimentary copies of the
January/February issue (and acclaim from your boss, your coworkers, and
your mom). Submit your essay via e-mail (MS Word attachment) by
Monday, September 11. Questions? Please ask!

Thanks for your consideration.
