Greetings mappers,
I have a question for members of this list. We have recently received a
new line of country and regional maps published in the U.K. by Rough
Guides. These maps are of a good quality and level of detail, I shall
provide a complete list below with the available titles, scale & ISBN's.
What I find interesting but cannot track further information about is
the description on the maps and in the promotional material that states
the maps come from the "World Mapping Project, a consortium of German
cartographers." An identifying symbol - logo of the World Mapping
Project appears together with the Rough Guide Ltd. publishing
information. I have not been able to find more information about this
organization from regular sources.
This past October at the Frankfurt Book fair we found a German publisher
"REISE KNOW-HOW" that has a much larger collection of these "World
Mapping Project" maps published with the REISE KNOW-HOW front cover. It
is not uncommon for a map publisher to sell the cartography - art work
and the exact same map can have different front covers, ISBN's and
price.
These maps appear genuinely new and I do not recognize the cartography
as being existing cartography from ADAC, Freytag & Berndt, Michelin,
Hallwag, Kummerley & Frey or other European map publishers that I am
familiar with.
Can anyone in Maps-L shed more light on the organization "World Mapping
Project"?
