The principle of latitude was certainly known to the ancient Greeks,
including Hipparchus, Eratosthenes, and Ptolemy. You did not see
graticules on portolan charts, so maybe the very early 15th century
(before the inception of printed maps), as a resurgence of interest in
/Geographia /occurred:
