Hi Susan,

This is a great question. I looked into doing something very similar
before working at the Harvard Map Collection.

Two schools I know of have dual degree programs in library science and
geography: University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and the University of
Maryland, College Park

I would look for schools that either have a solid map library or that
have solid geography or equivalent departments that offer courses in
GIS and cartography and remote sensing. I would also recommend a more
technical program offering courses in databases design, digital
imaging, preservation, and internet protocols, etc. Also, I would look
at current job postings to see what sort of skills and experience are
in demand.

Programs I recommend:
University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee
University of Maryland, College Park
University of Wisconsin, Madison
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
University of Pittsburgh
University of Texas, Austin

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Patrick
