One man's opinion. I have just looked at, for the first time,
the new sheet index map - in this case of Massachusetts et al.
I DON't LIKE IT. It is hard to spread out in order to look for
what you want. It doesn't make clear the inddividual quads.
Mostly, however, it fails to recognize that, after 500 years,
the codex format has never been beaten. Am I a voice crying in
the wilderness? Chris DEvan

          Chris,

We've been overriding the 100- and 250k series with IMW
numbering for some time and like it a lot better (100k
sheets are NE/NW/SE/SW of the 250k numbers). I'm planning
to superimpose the old AMS path/row numbering on 7.5' quads.
State sheet index margins are easy to modify with path/row
numbers. If sheets are face up in the map drawer, just
circle the DMA number in pencil. Should be a slam dunk. LC
