They are power lines.  You can see them using the birdseye view on MS Virtual Earth.

I just saw this on a 7.5' topo map in
North Carolina (T T T T T T T):

Sure looks like telephone poles to me, but that
symbol is not on the Topo Map Symbols (Part 5)
that I have.  Anybody know what those T's are?
