The March "Royal Auto" from the RACV mentions another German driver who
blindly followed his satnav, this time into a tramline where he became
stuck. Last month another German made international news when he followed
his satnav into a construction site and ploughed into a mound of sand
because the satnav told him to do it. "German police are reporting
increasing numbers of satnav bloopers".

The March issue of "GIM International" has an article on how Satnav is
iverting trucks fomr freeways to rural roads through villages, and the
issue
has been paced on the Dutch political agenda.

Finally, and urelatedly, the March issue of "Geographical Research" has an
interesting article by some Japanese researchers on using handheld
laserscanners to make rapid onsite topo mapping of archaeological sites
where political and technical restrictions prohibit the use of more
standard
mapping equipment or access to local maps/aerial photos.
