millennium Keynote Address by Andrew Wilson.
10.30 - 11.00am  Morning Tea
11.00 - 11.30am Australian National Placenames Survey - David Blair.
11.30 - 12.00 noon Looking for Treasure Island- Harry Steward.
12.00 noon - 12.30pm The Subtlest Kind of Cartography: Mapping Queensland's
Electoral Boundaries, 1860-1991 Duncan Waterson.
12.30 - 2.00pm Lunch, MU Staff Club
2.00 - 2.30pm Mapping a new colony: the geographical construction of
Queensland, 1860-1880- Peter Griggs.
2.30 - 3.00pm Teaching the terrain: explaining the battlefields to the
public at the Australian War Memorial Diane Rutherford.
3.00pm - 3.30pm Afternoon Tea
3.30 - 4.00pm Health and disease mapping in Australia: an historical
overview - Kevin McCracken.
4.00  - 4.30pm History of map collecting- Robert Clancy.
5.00pm Official Opening of 2003 Australian Map Circle Conference at the
Macquarie University Art Gallery, by the VC, Prof. Di Yerbury followed by
drink/refreshments and viewing of map exhibition, 'Icons of Australian
Cartography: Australian Maps 1900-1950'.

Tuesday 4 February 2003
9.00am Depart for city centre.
9.30 - 11.00am Visit to State Library of NSW.  Cheryl Evans will show
participants a selection of maps from the Mitchell Library and Dixson
Library collections, followed by a visit to the Heritage Gallery (opening
January 2003) to see a selection of significant items from the State
Library's collection of maps, photographs, realia and rare books, including
the Tasman [Bonaparte] and the Gijsbertsz maps.
11.30am - 1.00pm Visit to State Records. Presentation by Fabian Loschiavo
highlighting key maps and plans from the State Records extensive
collection.  It will include examples of records such as surveyors' field
books, sketchbooks, correspondence and parish maps.
12.30pm - 1.30pm Lunch
1.30pm - 4.30pm Guided tour of The Rocks by Graeme Aplin, outlining the
area's historical development from the earliest days of the colony to the
present day era of commodification, and how these changes have been
reflected in maps.
6.30pm - 7.00pm Pre-Conference Drinks at Stamford Grand, cnr Epping/Herring
Road, North Ryde.
7.00pm Annual Conference Dinner at Stamford Grand, cnr Epping/Herring Road

Wednesday 5 February
