The Louisiana Coastal Geographic Information System Network was established
to provide electronic access to spatially indexed geographic information
available on diverse media types such as maps, photographs, satellite
imagery, tabular data, and bibliographic citations.  The items will be
cataloged according to national standards using  USMARC bibliographic
formats, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and the Anglo American
Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition and other standard cataloging tools.  The
records will be added to the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) database
for international access. Materials cataloged using national standards
and wildly available retain their usefulness and standardization of
cataloging allows predictable search results.
