Subject: OS namebooks for Scotland now online

This morning the Ordnance Survey first edition namebooks for Scotland were made available online on the ScotlandsPlaces website http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/news/scotlands-place-names-revealed
The namebooks are a major source for the study of Scottish landscapes, place names and local and national history.

There is also a free exhibition here at National Records of Scotland to mark the completion of the digitisation of these records. This exhibition 'From Ae to Zetland', runs from 6 December to 31 January. http://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/news/2013/ordnance-survey-name-books
