2007 is the centenary of the publication of the geological memoir of the
Assynt area of Scotland, authored by Peach and Horne. In celebration there
was a big meeting of geologists in Ullapool during May. (Full web pages at
http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/peachandhorne/ which includes a link to the field
guide and a link to Assynt's Geology web pages -
http://earth.leeds.ac.uk/assyntgeology/).

Associated with this meeting there is the "Mapping Mountains" exhibition,
which you may find of interest. The story behind the geological mapping of
Assynt is fascinating. The exhibition itself will be in Edinburgh in July
and August and Glasgow in September. Full details and pdfs of the maps and
interpretative panels are on their web pages at
http://web.ges.gla.ac.uk/mappingmountains/ .

I should have thought to send this to the list earlier. I'm not associated
with the Mapping Mountains exhibition, but have worked closely with Rob
Butler from Leeds University in setting up the Leeds web pages for the meeting.
