Colleagues

Here's an interesting, commemorative, and commercial announcement all
rolled into one.

I'm writing to bring to your attention two newly published maps from
Alan Godfrey Maps.

The maps are reprints of UK military mapping prepared for the D-Day
landings. The maps are the "Stop Press Edition of 20 May 1944" of sheets
from the GSGS 4347 France 1:25,000 series, which show what British,
American and French intelligence sources knew of German defences in the
Normandy area, including field defences, concrete defences, railway
artillery, weapons, minefields, signals, obstacles, storage and
personnel accommodation and airfields. The sheets carry the TOP SECRET
and BIGOT designations. The sheets available are 40/16NW Ouistreham
(showing Pegasus Bridge) with introductory text by Tony Painter, and
34/18NE St. Pierre-du-Mont (showing Omaha Beach) with introductory text
by Tony Rosser.

This new series of reprints follows the well-known house style of the
Godfrey Editions of reprints of old Ordnance Survey maps of Britain,
including the very reasonable price of £3.25 per sheet.

Details and ordering information are available on the website at
http://www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk/dday.htm. I understand that Map Link of
Santa Barbara, California, plans to distribute the maps as well
(www.maplink.com <http://www.maplink.com/>).

The maps Alan has reprinted are from the extensive collections of
historical UK military mapping deposited with the British Library's Map
Collections by the Ministry of Defence. We are pleased and grateful that
Alan has helped us make these maps more available to the public as the
world commemorates the 60th anniversary of one of the most significant
days in modern history.
