Subject: IFLA World Directory of Map Collections -- 4th Edition

The Section of Geography and Map Libraries, International Federation
of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is compiling a 4th
edition of its World Directory of Map Collections. Publication is
planned for the year 2000, but questionnaires mailed over the past two
years are still outstanding for many U.S. map collections. It is
planned to have at least 2 references for each state. Currently only
31 responses have been received, and in many cases the major map
collection for a state is absent (*). The missing states are:

Alabama
Alaska
Arizona (1 letter sent)
Arkansas

If you have misplaced, not received, or would like a copy of your
response form, please contact Olivier Loiseaux
([log in to unmask]), chairman of the World Directory Working
Group.

As the international federation in which ALA and SLA holds membership,
IFLA would like to have representative coverage for the development of
its data base. Future plans call for a linking of various regional
map collection data bases for a truly international information source
for map collections.

Your kind assistance with this project is greatly appreciated.

David C. McQuillan, Chairman
IFLA Section of Geography and Map Libraries
