The University of Leuven/Louvain writer makes no mention of the fact
that this question was posted earlier this week on 'MapHist', only one
of which responses - to avoid duplication/replication - I copy
herewith:-

"Historical plans of Macedonian cities under the Ottoman Empire and
during WWI

One source for information about maps of towns under the Ottoman Empire
in the early 20th century is: the National Hellenic Research Foundation,
with its branch: Institute for Neohellenic Research N.H.R.F.

There is a catalogue of the maps in the old archives in Istanbul,
Basbakanlik arsivi.

Good luck,
Tom Goodrich"

Other responses may be gleaned from the 'MapHist' archive.

A graduate student at our university is studying the urban history of
the Macedonian cities Skopje and Bitola, in the context of a master
thesis. The research is rather complicated, due to the apparant lack of
(or not yet revealed) historical maps for these towns in the period of
the Ottoman Empire (untill +- 1907) and in the following period, more
specifically until the end of WWI. Our lack of expertise on the region,
directs me to this mailing list.
Would anyone be willing to point out the archives to research, an expert
to consult, or -worst case scenario- justify why these historical city
plans are so hard to find or possibly do not exist ?

Best regards,
