If you are looking for free, digital versions of the 1:24,000 USGS topo
maps, try one of these web sources:

1. A KML from Digital Data Services (found here:
http://www.usgsquads.com/prod_ge_indexes.htm )

The Colorado company Digital Data Services Inc. (DDS) produced a useful
KML that allows you to zoom to an area of interest using Google Earth,
and then download the USGS quad map that covers that location. The file
you get is a georeferenced TIFF with map collar information.

Note, the topo maps covering Alaska are in a separate KMZ file, but they
do not have a download option.

2.      The Libre Map Project (http://www.libremap.org/ ) .  They
provide:

*       24k scale USGS DRG's - detailed topographic maps for all 50
states.
* SVG boundary border files for all US states (including state,
county, and town boundaries)
*       TIGER/Line - All 2003 data is available.
* GeoNames - All USGS place names are available for searching. The
data can be used to find appropriate DRG's.

The site has a handy gazetteer that allows you to search for a name
(Verde River) or term (dam) and get a list of quad maps from the
selected state that contain that name or term.

Select the quad map you want from the list the site provides, and then
you can download the map Tiff (with the collar information), the
associated World File (.TFW), and the associated metadata (.FGD).

NOTE: If you're curious, both sites pull the actual quad map Tiffs and
metadata from the Internet Archives
(http://www.archive.org/details/maps_usgs ).

I am looking for a digital copy of the Cayucos Quad topo sheet at
1:62,500
for a faculty member. Does anybody have any suggestions or can assist
with this?

Thanks!
