Alice Hudson noted for us the contents of the teNeues 1997 small format
(ca. 12 x 12 in.) calendar.  Their larger format calendar for 1997 (19 x 17
3/4 in. or 48 x 45 cm), ISBN: 3-8238-5032-6, retails for $25.95 U.S. or
$37.95 Cdn. It too is available from the New York Address, teNeues
Publishing Company, 16 West 22nd Street, New York, NY 10010, Tel: (212)
627-9090, Fax: (212) 627-9511. The descriptive text, which at one time was
printed on the verso of the calendar portion below each map, has, for the
last few years been printed on a separate tear-off sheet following the last
map. I preferred the old way myself. Also discontinued was the practice of
having a large folding map as the December feature.

The contents of this calendar are, from their descriptions, "Holland/Belgium
... created by Johannes and Lucas a Duetecum"; "English Channel ...[from]
Spieghel der Zevaert"; "London and its environs ... produced by ...Homann
Erben in Nuremberg after ... Thomas Bowles"; "Map of the World ... by
Antonio Saliba from 1582"; "western provinces of Japan ... around 1820";
"Hydrographia Germaniae ... The oldest waterway map of Germany ... by Johann
B. Homann"; "The Ptolemaic Picture of the World ... Cellarius [also used on
the cover]; "Stonehenge"; "Bruges,... shows cartographic and pictorial
elements. ... Most likely created for Charles II around 1665 by Hendrik
Laport ... tripartite presentation from varying perspectives."; "Australia
... Done in the year 1547" [unattributed but looks like Jean Rotz. I don't
have his atlas here to check but someone will correct me if I'm wrong];
"Schleswig-Holstein, done in the 17th century by Johannes Mejer"; "Scotland.
... Jodocus Hondius ... between 1605 and 1610."

Another is "Antique Maps [,] 1997 Calendar" by Landmark Calendars of 51
Digital Drive, Novato, California 94949 [Inside cover gives it as Dept.
Cal97, P.O. Box 6105, 94948-6105], Distributed in Canada by Bella For
Enterprises Inc., Kelowna, B.C. V1X 7K1, Phone: (250) 860-3377.  If that
number doesn't work use the old area code (604). All of B.C. except Greater
Vancouver changed to (250) at midnight last Fri., Oct. 18. Also inside the
cover are toll-free phone numbers. (USA only) 1-800-365-YEAR (9327) AND
(Canada only) 1-800-332-YEAR (9327). These numbers are said to be available
8am - 6pm (PST), Mon. to Fri. All reproductions are "Courtesy the Bancroft
Library". The are John Speed's World map of 1626; Blaeu's Tabula Russiae,
1663, from Vol. 1. of "Le Grand Atlas"; America, noviter delineata, by
Jodocus Hondius; Nova Totius, Angliae, Scotiae et Hiberniae, by Fredeik de
Wit, 1680; Abraham Ortelius' Chart of the Azores, 1584; Blaeu's 1663 map of
Norvegia Regnum, Vulgo Nor-Ryke, also from vol. I as above; Guineae Nova
Descriptio by Gerhard Mercator; Palatinatus Posnaniensis, again from vol. 1
of Blaeu's Grand Atlas; World map by Nicoaes Visscher; another from same
Blaeu atlas, Frisia Borealis in Ducaturs Sleswicensi 1651 on the left side,
and 1240 on the right side; Diego Homen's Chart of Souteast Asia, ca. 1558;
and finally Novissima et Accuratissima totius Italiae, Corsicae et
Sardiniae, by Frederik de Wit, 1680.

Barnes and Noble have also published an antique map calendar for 1997, the
contents of which I wont list here as it will be so widely available.

Hope this helps those of you who, like me, look forward to this time of year
when relatively inexpensive study prints become available along with a
reason to hang them on your wall and look at them for one month of the year.
