I remember something like this about 30 years ago from a film that dealt
with the development of Plate tectonics. The guy had a great
globe/model. There was also a few minutes spent on the idea of a
shrinking Earth.

You know, mountain ranges contain very thick sequences of deformed
sedimentary rocks, much thicker that the age-equivalent sedimentary
rocks in the middle of continents. Maybe we could spin a reasonable
theory that would account for that observation.
