Alice and her restored Map Room made the CBS Sunday Morning show this
morning. I have two comments:

1. Equally cool on getting that Smiley guy nailed (all we need is
smileys getting a bad name -- the yellow kind ;-) 2. You get a big PLUS
for recognizing and saying that sometimes original materials are
necessary. I recently went to an unmentioned library looking for a topo
sheet from the late 1930s and was only allowed to have access to the
digital version of one that had been considerably marked up and the
digital version was in B/W even though the thumbnail of the original
source showed color. (Next time I'm in DC, I'll be visiting LC to use
theirs to make my photograph!)

I also have a question: One thing I noticed at the unmentioned map
library was that they were handling antique materials without gloves.
Is this something that generally happens with maps and not with other
old materials? I've noticed that, whenever I've been at the Getty
Research Institute that they handle everything but the most modern
materials with gloves that appear similiar to photo negative editing
gloves.

I noticed that they didn't give you your full 15 minutes of fame, so I'm
assuming that you'll be on again! ;-)
