I usually keep all editions of the maps for the states we collect
because it details the history of the area and you can see the myriad
changes over time.  Seeing all the changes over time can be of great
help to researchers, environmentalists, etc.  I'd encourage you to keep
them.

What USGS Topo maps does your library hold?
Do you have national coverage of the 1/24,000?

Did you keep superceded editions of the 7.5' series?

What coverage do you have for older series?
1/31,680
1/48,000
1/50,000 army
1/62,500?
1/150,000?
1/250,000?
