Subject: a song about surveyors?
Sender: [log in to unmask]

Hi,

As a Christmas present this year I received Mark Knopfler's CD "Sailing to
Philadelphia." (Mark Knopfler used to be the lead singer and guitarist for
Dire Straits.) To my surprise, I found that the song "Sailing to Philadelphia"
is actually about Jeremiah Mason and Charles Dixon, the surveyors of the
Mason/Dixon line. It's a very nice song that discusses the history of the two
men and their trip to America to "draw the line." It is the only song I can
remember to cover map making. Are there any others?

The CD, by the way, is excellent in case you're looking for some new music.

Julie
