William Smith was the 19th century engineer in England who became obsessed with creating the world's first geological map and ultimately became the father of modern geology. In a neat use of the book dust jacket, it unfolds to reveal a full-colour replica of Smiths geological map. (The original map was published hand painted in 1815 and more that eight feet tall and six feet wide)
