Sender: "Campbell, Tony" <[log in to unmask]> I am seeking information about recent doctorates in the History of Cartography, to be included in the 'Chronicle' section of Imago Mundi: the International Journal for the History of Cartography. This information is also added to the relevant page on the Map History site <http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/phd.html>. That 'Doctorates' page is preceded by the following note:- "Some of the information was obtained from ProQuest Digital Dissertations, which gives access to UMI's Dissertation Abstracts database (apparently restricted to US and Canada). Another site which offers the possibility of searching across a number of sites simultaneously is the ETD Digital Library: the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) {though I confess I have not yet worked out how to use that yet!}. For UK doctorates, see the Institute of Historical Research's Theses Completed and in Progress, and Index to Theses (from 1970 onwards). Information on doctorates beyond North America and the UK is hard to find." [please see the page itself for the URLs]. Can anybody tell me of other finding aids? The problem seems to be that many of the doctorates I *do* know about do not appear where you would expect to find them, or only after considerable delay. And there remains the major problem of doctorates awarded elsewhere than North America and the UK. Thank you. **************************************************************************** **************** [log in to unmask] Tony Campbell, Map Librarian British Library Map Library 96 Euston Road London NW1 2DB UK Phone: 020 7412 7525 International: +44 20 7412 7525 Fax: 020 7412 7780 International: +44 20 7412 7780 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ Please bookmark and PROVIDE LINKS to:- 1.
