Can anyone confirm > this information (about Russian maps of Turkey), or provide any other > insights on this question? It seems to be true Correct transcription/transliteration russian-english is Krassovski and Kronshtadt Additional remarks: Soviet maps are not very correct: - KGB censorship had changed them a lot (+/- 3 km shifts are usual) - maps are mostly given in Lat-Long values of Krassovski-42 (Pulkovo-42) (for civil usage maps) and/or in X-Y metric values of Gauss-Krassovski (GK-42) (for military usage maps). - for getting correct values using GK-42 maps we always need additional calculations using Northing and Easting Difference Tables (also corrects KGB shift). - Some maps are using Krassovski system with different modifications - Krassovski/Pulkovo 1963; Krassovski/Pulkovo 1922 - Height from see level (MSL; ASL) has different meaning for every country, for example in Estonia we use Baltic Height System (control point is in Baltic sea, Gulf of Finland, Kronshtadt island near St. Petersburg, Russia). WGS-84 zero level in Estonia is 17...22 m under Baltic sea level. Krassovski - name of the author - russian geodesist F. N. Krassovski Different sources are using different transliteration: Krasovski; Krassovski; Krasovskij; Krassovskij; Krasovsky; Krassovsky; Krasovskii; Krassovskii; Krasovskiy; Krassovskiy Pulkovo - observatory near Sankt Petersburg (Leningrad; Petrograd) Russia, Pulkovo meridian was used as basement for this system - horisontal datum Different sources are using different transliteration: Pulkovo; Pulkova Kronshtadt - Military (Navy) base and city on Kronshtadt island in Gulf of Finland near St. Petersburg - Sea level "0" for Russia and former USSR - vertical datum Gauss-Krassovski (GK-42) - US DoD and NATO are using the name "Warsaw Pact Crid" for it.
