What we decided was to charge $7.00 for all maps up to five feet in length. For each foot over the base five -foot map we charge $1.75 extra. This extra charge for each additional foot will not be levied for margins but aplied ony when the actual map lines or printing goes over the five-foot lenght. There are are not charges for the width ( 36'" is the max) or color intensity or density. The reason we have set the basic price at 5 feet is because most of the census maps will be in the neighborhood of 4 ft, a sort of standard size. We have not had this in place for too long. We basically are trying to recover costs and not make money. The only problems we have had are from people wanting to print posters, etc. We are short staffed right now so we are only doing maps. ( we had been open to doing more before) We found that once one person found we could do "pictures" the word spread. Evidently we were much cheaper than kinko's or other places on campus for this non mapping use of a plotter. The plotter is in our main library reference where we have our GIS services not the Map library. Carol M.
