The Sir George Fordham Award for Cartobibliography [see <http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/prize.html <http://ihr.sas.ac.uk/maps/prize.html> >] - given triennially by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) - has, for 2002, been granted to Dr Peter C.J. van der Krogt. Dr Van der Krogt is currently senior researcher in the Department of Cartography at the University of Utrecht and list-owner & web-master of the internet discussion list 'MapHist' [<http://www.maphist.nl/ <http://www.maphist.nl/> >]. A first public announcement of the winner was made last evening at the annual E.G.R. Taylor Lecture, held in the Ondaatje Theatre of the RGS (with IBG). The decision of the assessment panel was unanimous, and was based especially on Dr Van der Krogt's continuing work on the multi-volume new edition of Koeman's Atlantes Neerlandici (Utrecht : HES, 1997-2001 etc., ISBN 90-6194-248-9). The Award of a certificate and a cheque will be handed over to Peter (known, doubtless, to many of the subscribers to most of the six lists to whom this announcement is being simultaneously posted) later this year in Holland. He need not be be too embarrassed to post the notice of his own achievement!
