Might some Maps-L readers out there please comment on the definition of
atlas (as opposed to language material) as applied by their library
catalogers in the context of AACR2 and format integration and
cartographic
materials?  Do you use some rule of thumb about percentage of maps
versus
text, or do you go by whether the publisher calls its work an atlas, or
do
you just try to judge whether the work is maps with explanatory text (an
atlas) versus text with illustrative maps (not an atlas), no matter the
percentage of each?  NYPL catalogers and I would be grateful for some
input
on this.
