-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Fwd: Re: seeking info on 1:62,500 scale map Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 11:42:19 -0600 From: Carol Russell <[log in to unmask]> ------------------ Hi Maps-Lers: I have been seeking info from the USGS, among other places, about whether or not there was ever printed a topographic map sheet at the scale of 1:62,500 covering the area immediately north of the 1:62,500 Kilgore, Texas sheet (the map I am seeking would be bounded by 32.30 - 32.45 N. Lat. and 94.45 - 95.00 W. Long.) I was told by the USGS library that the Moffat map index to topos (WAML, 1947), which covers maps 1882-1940, does not list such a map. That area is presently covered by the 1960 1:24,000 topo sheets Gladewater, Gilmer, Glenwood and White Oak, all published in 1960. We have a patron looking for maps dated 1936-1950 of that area. I am also trying to find out if there are any printed indexes (dated prior to 1967) to USGS topo maps. I have saved the old printed indexes dating from 1967 on, and they show how the mapping proceeded from no maps to 1:62,500 to 1:24,000. Does anyone out there have an index dated prior to 1967? Does anyone have (I am assuming only Texas libraries would have this) any maps 1936-1950 of the area? >Delivered-To: [log in to unmask] >Subject: Re: seeking info on 1:62,500 scale map >To: Carol Russell <[log in to unmask]> >X-Mailer: Lotus Notes Release 5.0.3 March 21, 2000 >From: "lrefreston" <[log in to unmask]> >Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2004 15:14:58 -0500 >X-MIMETrack: Serialize by Router on gsvaresm03/SERVER/USGS/DOI(Release >5.0.12HF345 | August > 14, 2003) at 01/29/2004 03:15:02 PM > > >Dear Carol Russell: > The Moffat Map Index does not indicate a map to the north or Kilgore >(#199), from 1936.
