Dear MAPS-L Friends, Here is Mexico Maps' recent press release regarding a new atlas for Mexico. Regards, Mark Walker For Immediate release: # # # # # ## # # # # # # 1/15/04 MEXICO: NEW ATLAS REVEALS THE ROADS LESS TRAVELED SANTA BARBARA CA - Map importer and distributor, Mexico Maps, announces the latest travel atlas for Mexico: the Guia Mexico Desconocido Atlas de Carreteras Republica Mexicana 2003, published by well known Mexican publisher Editorial Mexico Desconocido. Located in Mexico City, this company has been publishing a high quality travel magazine in Mexico for 26 years, Mexico Desconocido (Unknown Mexico). Their focus has always been to inform and to educate their readers about interesting destinations in Mexico and this atlas highlights these areas and provides an excellent general reference for Mexico utilizing the latest digital data. One nice feature I found in comparing this atlas is that the scale (1:1,350,000) is a very good one for viewing Mexico. More geographic area is on each page making a lower page count overall. A first for atlases of Mexico, it includes municipal boundaries as well as a wealth of other information for the traveler. Besides the mapping, the new atlas shows us where we might want to explore. Three insets maps show (1) archeological sites open to the public, (2) national parks and natural areas and (3) important missions and convents. In all, 709 places of interest in Mexico ranging from secluded natural areas to frequently visited sites such as Chichen Itza. There is an index of town names with around 4,796 entries, a distance table for determining travel times between major cities and four pages of urban mapping. A 2-page spread Mexico City map shows the main arteries and the general location of the delegaciones as well as around 40 important places ranging from the Estadio Azteca to the airport and the Basilica de Guadalupe to the Perisur shopping mall. Single page maps of Guadalajara and Monterrey show major arteries and major sites (e.g. Plaza de Toros in Guadalajara and Museo de Vidrio in Monterrey). The 84 page atlas sells for $18.95 and is available at Mexico Maps’ web site, http://www.mexicomaps.com.
