HUNTER COLLEGE THE CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK Department of Geography POSITION: Title: College Laboratory Technician Functional Title: Geoscience College Laboratory Technician Start Date: July 1, 2005 RESPONSIBILITIES: The CLT will report to the Chair of the department through the Department Laboratory Committee and will have the primary responsibility for the care and maintenance of the department's GIS/computer cartography, physical geography and geology laboratory facilities, including the instructional computing laboratories, the geology preparation room, all audio-visual equipment, and the geologic and map collections. Additional responsibilities include purchasing supplies and equipment, acting as staff cartographer and webmaster, liaison with the college's Property Management, Facilities and Planning, and Public Safety departments. Duties will include the preparation of laboratories for exercises, demonstration of geoscience techniques in laboratory and classroom situations, monitoring students' use of equipment, and supervising part-time CLTs and college, graduate and student assistants. REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma and four years of relevant experience is required (a bachelor's degree with some graduate course work is preferred) with an academic/work experience record that includes concentrations in analytical geographic techniques including GIS and/or automated cartography, and physical geography and/or geology. Knowledge of geoscience-related software is essential with preference given to a candidate versed in computer mapping and geographic information systems and having knowledge of the web-based windows operating system. Good interpersonal skills and effective English oral and written communications skills are necessary for dealing with faculty, students, college staff, service providers and vendors. SALARY: $31,014 - $36,101 (current contract) dependent on academic background and experience.
