Dear Jim, the index of topo map (Peta Rupabumi) of NAD province (including Simeulue) can be seen at http://202.155.86.44/aceh/ . but I know a little about the 1:50k coverage of Nias Island. I will send you another message tomorrow. The hardcopies of Nias and Simeulue Islands sheets (and also the digital files or softcopy) can be obtained at Bakosurtanal (National Coordinating Agency for Surveys and Mapping) office, Cibinong, Indonesia. Unfortunately, I don t know the procedures for remote order. The shape files of NAD province administrative division (including Simeulue) and some other themes can also be downloaded freely from http://inisiatif.rsgisforum.net/ Please let me know if your friend needs other help. Dear Jim The National Library of Australia has extensive topographic coverage of Indonesia, both current and retrospective. We hold 1:50 000 coverage in the current (Indonesian) series for much of Indonesia and even to 1:25 000 for some parts. However a check of that part of the archipelago shows no coverage at that scale of the islands, suggesting either it has yet to be done of or is not available. We do hold the following, retrospective topo series for the islands: 1:100 000 (T618) series - US army series 1:50 000 Nias (HIND 614/GSGS 4601) series - WWII vintage - British or US 1:50 000 Simeulue (HIND 602) - WWII vintage - British/US We can provide full size, B&W copies. Please let me know if this is of use to your reader. Greetings, Map Folk! I've got a researcher who is working on the Sumatra Subduction zone, the site of two recent earthquakes you've probably heard of. He needs some topo maps that I don't have, and I wonder if anybody else out there does have them? They're 1:50,000 coverage of two different islands, Nias and Simeuleu. I've got indexes that indicate that the maps have been published (I've even seen one!), but I don't have any of the others. Does anybody? I've already harrassed the map librarians in the UC system and at Stanford, so I'm trying to : Kabupaten Nias, all sheets on 0517, 0616, and 0617 Kabupaten Simeulue, all sheets on 0418 and 0518 I've located 1:250,000, which isn't as detailed as he'd like, but I'm wondering if there's anybody out there in MapLand who has these? Thank you so much!
