There are several homemade solutions that I've gotten information on before. Also, Mayline/Hamilton has a locking device: item 90J006, Locking Device for steel plan files It's a hinged doo-wicky that seems to bolt on the right hand edge of a case and fold over to block the drawers when locked. See page 49 in this catalog: http://www.mayline.com/pricebookpdf/filing.pdf Has anyone retrofitted this to their flat map files? What is their opinion on the ease of installation and on how well it works? Do you need a separate lock for each 5-drawer unit, or does it allow a rod to slide through multiple units? Is it worth the cost compared to the homemade solutions? (I'm assuming about $50 for the part, considering the usual discounts from list price.) It must require a bit of drilling.
