See the example, "Amended 5/31/76." And then under the application of rule 4F7, it says that in the absence of a publication date, one can infer the publication date from the date in the edition statement. On the other hand, there is an example for edition statement under 2B1 ("As rev. by by-law no. 19, of 1963") that sounds a lot like an "adopted" date. But I think it makes more sense to use the latest "amendment" date, if there is one, considering that the law has been adopted and perhaps amended, but the map has definitely been amended. And the amendment has presumably happened after the original adoption. You would probably look at it differently if the map were amended by pasting on changes, or if it had amendments written in by hand. Nancy Kandoian Map Div. I have found some great print and online resources to get me started, but I'm having trouble with a group of zoning maps that I need to catalog. In particular, I am confused about the multitude of dates printed on the map. For instance, each map has an "adopted" date, an "effective" date, and then dates of any "amendments." [no "publishing" date, per se.] I have looked at the records for already-cataloged zoning maps in our collection, and it seems that the "adopted" date has been used as the publishing date. However, if this is correct practice, I'm not sure how to create a new record reflecting the amendments on my maps in hand. Are amendments considered editions? I would greatly appreciate any thoughts you all might have. Kate Bejune Catalog Librarian Purdue University Libraries - TECH 504 W.
