-------- Original Message -------- Subject: New Ecoregions of Colorado map Date: Thu, 27 Apr 2006 07:06:38 -0600 From: Joseph J Kerski <[log in to unmask]> To: [log in to unmask] Folks: Excellent news! The most recent state added to one of my favorite map series, the Ecoregion series, has been published! Ecoregions of Colorado Stock # 205792 Price: $7 for map plus $5 handling The GIS data is available on: http://www.epa.gov/wed/pages/ecoregions/co_eco.htm This site also contains the map as a PDF. The paper map is folded and measures approximately 35 by 40 inches. Ecoregion maps denote areas of general similarity in ecosystems and in the type, quality, and quantity of environmental resources. They are designed to serve as a spatial framework for the research, assessment, management, and monitoring of ecosystems and ecosystem components. These maps are directly applicable to the immediate needs of state agencies, including the development of biological criteria and water quality standards, the establishment of management goals for nonpoint-source pollution, and integrated ecosystem management. The approach used to compile this map is based on the premise that ecological regions can be identified through the analysis of the patterns of biotic and abiotic phenomena that reflect differences in ecosystem quality and integrity. These phenomena include geology, physiography, vegetation, climate, soils, land use, wildlife, and hydrology. Use this map, text, and photographs to teach and learn about the physical geography, flora, fauna, landscape processes, and ecosystems of Colorado. For a complete listing of available ecoregion maps, or to purchase this map, contact the Science Information and Library Services (SILS) offices at 1-888-ASK-USGS, or you can order online through the USGS Store at: http://store.usgs.gov Joseph Kerski ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Joseph J.
