The Science Libraries include the Shapiro Science Library supporting Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geological Sciences, Mathematics, Natural Resources and the Environment, Physics, and Statistics; the Biological Station Library; and the Museums Library supporting the Museums of Anthropology, Paleontology, Zoology, and the University Herbarium. The Director leads and directs these three units and has overall responsibility for budgeting, staffing, and coordination of public and technical services. The Director also manages an annual budget of approximately $3 million in partnership with a dedicated, experienced staff of 16 FTEs and is a member of the senior management team and the Public Services Council of the University Library. The position reports to the Associate University Librarian for Public Services. The Director assumes leadership at a transformative period in the University’s transition to digitally-defined libraries and has a unique opportunity to participate in the creation of visionary programs and services. Major responsibilities of the Director will be to build and strengthen relationships with the U-M science community, participate in library-wide initiatives, engage with colleagues nationally, and provide leadership in the development of innovative services including revisioning the space in the Shapiro Library building.
