All maps scanned - new and old - are placed in a Mylar folder type thing. This protects both the map and the scanner. The Mylar prevents dust and other particles from gumming up the equipment. The Mylar does cast a pinkish hue across the image and so we use Photoshop to correct the color. Some are in very poor condition, and I don't think they will make it thru the scanner (roller type). Any recommendations on protecting the drawing during the scanning process would be greatly appreciated. One idea we've talked about is buying, or creating a clear "sleeve" that we could place the drawing in and scan. Any thoughts? He must have a thorough knowledge of his subject and model, the Earth.... He must have the ability to generalize intelligently and to make a right selection of the features to show. These are represented by means of lines or colors; and the effective use of lines or colors requires more than knowledge of the subject - it requires artistic judgment."
