The conference will commence with a welcome afternoon tea on Sunday afternoon, followed by three days of papers, technical sessions, and visits to map collections and exhibitions. Conference participants arriving early are welcome to take part in a tour of the Australian War Memorial on Sunday afternoon (Memorial is located on the route between the airport and the city centre). A stimulating programme is being developed and will be introduced by the keynote speaker, Ms Annabelle Pegrum, Chief Executive of the National Capital Planning Authority. Papers presented will focus on both historical and current trends in mapping and map-related topics. Participants will be introduced to future plans by Territory and national mapping authorities. The proposed programme includes tours of Canberra , the National Museum of Australia 's mapping exhibitions, and Geoscience Australia . The tour of Geoscience will include the 3D theatre, visits to Mapping, Geology, Petroleum and Marine Groups, and a demonstration of the Tsunami Warning System. The conference will be of interest to specialist and general researchers and practitioners, map librarians, surveyors, collectors, cartographers, map sellers, GIS users, and academic geographers - in fact, anyone with an interest and enthusiasm for maps. All registered attendees will be eligible for a prize of a complete set of HEMA maps .
