The problem with the request to reply off-list is that nobody else on the list knows if the request has been filled. I ask kindly that if you submit a request to Maps-L and want people to respond off-list - that you be conscientious and let the list know as soon as possible when the request has been filled. If no one replies off or on -list within a few days, feel free to resubmit your request. I don't think there is anything wrong with asking people to respond off-list. There are many lurkers who might be unwilling to reply to the entire list as a whole, but who are willing to reply to an individual off-list.
