-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Census 2000 Block Maps Date: Thu, 19 Apr 2007 14:54:11 -0700 From: Diaz, Carlos <[log in to unmask]> To: GOVDOC-L (E-mail) <[log in to unmask]>, Government Documents Processing Listserv (E-mail) <[log in to unmask]>, Maps-L (E-mail) <[log in to unmask]> As you know, the Census Bureau decided not to distribute paper census block maps for the 2000 Census to depository libraries. Instead, they distributed the block maps on cd-rom or online via .pdf files. As you know, the block maps are 36" x 33." That means patrons would not be able to download onto their printers at home. Most patrons want to see the whole thing at one time and move it around, etc. Patrons don't have The problem is that GPO has not assigned call numbers to the block maps that would be printed from either the cd-rom or online. Found a call number stem via Andriot's that was C 3.62/9: (irregular. issued in cd-rom). But apparently, it is no longer in the GPO system. The 1990 Census block maps call number was C 3.223/11: 1990 CPH-3-no./maps. When you go to the online version of the 2000 Census block maps at: http://www.census.gov/geo/www/maps/descriptwindows/census_blockmaps.htm You will find numbers attached to the states, counties, blocks which they use to identify the maps. What I would like to know is: * If your depository/library are printing these out. If so, what call number are you using? * Would you like for GPO to come up with a call number stem and records so they can be downloaded onto your online catalog. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- ,-~~-.___. / | ' \ "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of ( ) 0 the few or the one." \_/-, ,----' ==== // Mr. Spock / \-'~; /~~~(O) Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan / __/~| / | =( _____| (_________| Carlos A.
