-------- Original Message -------- Subject: Four Doors, California Date: Wed, 27 Jun 2007 13:16:51 -0700 From: Andrew Ryall Briggs <[log in to unmask]> To: maps-l Read in the Maps-L listserve of a query for /Four Doors, California/, described as a "/one horse town/ somewhere in the area of San. Francisco bay or Northern California." This is a long shot, but there was a town called /One Horse Town/ just outside of Jacksonville Oregon in 1850 to 1880 time period ~ This town would have been about 40 miles from the California Border, and was a stopping point on the path/route between the Northern California Gold Mines and Portland, Oregon. One Horse Town served as the 'red-light' district to the much more prosperous Jacksonville, and was surprisingly multicultural for that time (with a large ((for Oregon)) African American, Hawaiian and Native American community.) The town was, at best 100 to 200 people in size. So, don't know if this fits your needs, but if you need a long shot? Andrew Briggs
